1982 Olds Delta 88 Front End Donor

The Old’s IFS looks to be in pretty good shape. Need to pull what is left of the front sheet metal and take a few measurements before getting out the Sawzall. I am planning on cutting it long, behind the front body mounts so that I can determine the best fit in the Dodge.
Oh, check out the coil springs! Whoever was setting the car up for the crash had really heated the springs to get the car back down to ride height after they pulled the engine and transmission. It kind of reminds me of my 1st attempt at lowering a car back in high school.

Luckily, the hoist arms just cleared the trailer fenders and just made it under the Old’s frame.

Since I don’t have a fork lift to get the car off the trailer – all 5 tires were flat and would not hold air – I jacked it up on the trailer as high as I could and put jack stands under the frame. I then backed the trailer in between the hoist posts with the arms raised to clear the fenders on the trailer.

I was able to find a 1982 Olds Delta 88 sedan to use as a donor for the Dodge. It’s wheelbase, track width and weight were all quite close to the Dodge’s numbers so it looked to be a good fit. This Olds was to have been crashed in a movie that was being filmed in Phoenix. The engine, transmission, radiator and fuel tank had already been removed and the front bumper mounts and core support had been cut so that the car would dramatically crush when hit. Fortunately for me, the car was not used in the movie and it was at a friendly price so we loaded it on the trailer with a fork lift and I hauled it home.
Most of the time when you are hauling a new project car home on a trailer, folks will give you a thumbs up as the pass you. . . with the Olds, they all looked the other way when they went by. I can imagine them saying to themselves. . . “What was that guy thinking?”
